Apptastic
Smartphone and tablet users are spoiled for choice when it comes to nifty apps for making mundane tasks easier. Some examples:
Fleet managers tightening up their log books should check out Aussie Driving Log ($1.19 on iTunes). It keeps track of kilometres and can provide reports in CSV spreadsheet format.
Business travellers can use TripTracker (free on iTunes) to compile hotel information, flight details and rental car confirmations, and automatically generate itineraries.
Networkers need Business Card Reader ($7.99 on iTunes) ? a quick way of transferring contact information from a business card straight to the digital contact book. All you do is snap a photo with the device?s inbuilt camera and the app scans for all the necessary details. It also has LinkedIn integration.
Also taking advantage of the camera, Expensify (free on iTunes and Android Market) allows users to save their receipts by keeping a digital image, instead of loading up wallets with scraps of paper. The app can also sync to credit cards.
Businesses already using Skype at work will no doubt be aware of the mobile app, too (free on iTunes and Android Market). All you need is an internet connection to make calls. If you?re connected by your phone or tablet?s data plan, say on a 3G network, your calls will still cost, but if you?re hooked up to the net via a wireless network, the calls are free.
